Posted in NFL Football  by Sportsbook Bonus on March 10th, 2009

ESPN’s John Clayton is reporting that the Buffalo Bills have signed trouble-making wide receiver Terrell Owens to a one year contract. The Bills will pay Owens $6.5 million dollars for the 2009 season. Terrell Owens would then become a free agent once again. This makes Buffalo Owens fourth NFL team since he has now played for the 49ers, Eagles, and Cowboys, each one resulting in a bad split. Owens was cut by the Cowboys on Thursday with two years remaining on his contract. He received a $12 million dollar signing bonus when he signed the deal before last season.

Dallas Cowboys Cut Terrell Owens

Posted in NFL Football  by Sportsbook Bonus on March 5th, 2009

terrell owens
The Dallas Cowboys have released wide receiver Terrell Owens, according to ESPN’s Michael Smith . Last month, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones did not deny the team was discussing the possible release of Owens. .The team did not immediately have comment. A spokesman for Owens said he hadn’t heard the news, and that the receiver was traveling and could not immediately be reached, according to The Associated Press.

The Cowboys paid Owens a $12 million signing bonus last year, which was included as part of a new four-year, $34 million deal. Dallas will take a roughly $9 million salary-cap hit with the release of Terrell Owens. In his controversial three years with the Cowboys, Owens caught 235 passes for 3,587 yards and 38 touchdowns in 47 games. He led the NFL with 13 touchdowns receiving in 2006, his first season in Dallas.

Rumors have been circulating since the end of the Cowboys season, in which they missed the playoffs, that they would consider cutting Owens to improve team morale. Terrell Owens had serious relationship issues with quarterback Tony Romo and tight end Jason Witten, but the receiver consistently criticized offensive coordinator Jason Garrett’s play calling and his offensive schemes to the point that sources have said Garrett did not believe he and Owens could coexist.

Owens told The Dallas Morning News in May 2008 he “definitely” wanted to finish his career with the Cowboys. Guess not!

Kurt Warner Negotiating With Cardinals and 49ers

Posted in NFL Football  by Sportsbook Bonus on March 4th, 2009

kurt warner
Kurt Warner might have decided against a signing with the San Francisco 49ers on Monday that could have net him a rich two-year contract. While he’s thinking over a more lucrative offer by the 49ers, Kurt Warner asked the Cardinals to give them a chance to sign him at a discount. Warner instructed his agent, Mark Bartelstein, to make a two-year, $23 million proposal to stay with the Cardinals. According to Bartelstein, Warner’s proposal would include $12 million in guarantees, $6 million each season.

To enhance the deal to the Cardinals further, Warner is willing to reduce his contract by $1 million a year if they can successfully renegotiate the contract of wide receiver Anquan Boldin. The Cardinals improved their proposal to Warner that had been stalled for more than a week at two years and $20 million. The Cardinals are ready to give him $23 million over the next two seasons, but they are making up for the difference with several incentives.

Warner was the lifeblood that led Arizona to an unexpected run to the Super Bowl. The Cardinals had playoff victories over Atlanta, Carolina and Philadelphia before a 27-23 loss to at the Super Bowl. Warner completed 31 of 43 passes for 377 yards and three touchdowns against the Steelers.

Coast Guard Search Ends For Missing NFL Pros

Posted in NFL Football  by Sportsbook Bonus on March 4th, 2009

marquis cooper
The Coast Guard has ended its search for the two NFL players and another man lost at sea, leaving the families to cope with unknown fates of the men and to organize a private search.

Loved ones of one of the missing boaters react Tuesday to the news the Coast Guard’s search would end saying “There’s a lot of things we have to come to grips with — we’ve all agreed unanimously we won’t give up hope,” said Bruce Cooper, father of Oakland Raiders linebacker Marquis Cooper.

Marquis Cooper, NFL free agent Corey Smith and former college football player William Bleakley are all missing, after a fishing boat carrying them and a fourth man overturned Saturday in the Gulf of Mexico. The Coast Guard search was called off at sundown Tuesday. Nick Schuyler, the fourth man, was found alive on top of the overturned boat about 40 miles west of Egmont Key, Florida, on Monday afternoon.

Top 2009 NFL Draft Picks

Posted in NFL Football  by Sportsbook Bonus on February 16th, 2009

michael-crabtree
5. James Laurinatis

James is an Ohio St. MLB. James stands 6′3″, 245 lbs and he runs a 4.6 40 yard dash. James’ strengths are his athletic ability with James being a former hockey star. James is a senior. His cons are his tendency to try to deliver the big hit rather than just wrapping up the offensive player.

4. Andre Smith

Andre is a LT for Alabama. He is listed at 6′4″, 330 lbs and runs a 5.3 40 yard dash. Smith has the size and strength to be a star in the NFL but he doesn’t have the speed or quickness needed to excel to a pro bowler. Andre is a Junior.

3. Malcolm Jenkins

Malcolm is a CB for Ohio St. He is also one of my favorites in this Draft because of his combination of brain, size, speed, and strength. Malcolm is a senior who runs a 4.4 40 yard dash. He is listed at 6′1″, 201 lbs. He also is known for his physicality by getting into WR’s heads.

2. Sam Bradford

Sam is an eligible sophomore. He plays QB for Oklahoma. In just 2 years he has shown that he has the ability to take over games and become a superstar in the NFL. Sam is 6′4″, 220 lbs and he runs between a 4.5-4.6 40 yard dash. His ability to throw his passes accurately and with power on it gives him the chance to be the #1 QB taken and maybe for the Lions the No. 1 pick in the Draft.

1. Michael Crabtree

Crabtree is hands-down the best WR prospect since Larry Fitzgerald. His ability to run a 4.4 40 yard dash and easily pass CB’s will give him the chance to be the first WR to be selected No. 1 overall since Keyshawn Johnson. Crabtree is an eligible Sophomore. His only con is that he might be prone to injury cause he doesn’t get down on 1st contact. Is listed at 6′3″, 214 lbs.

Pittsburgh Steelers - Super Bowl Champs!

Posted in NFL Football, NFL Odds, Super Bowl  by Sportsbook Bonus on February 2nd, 2009

james-harrison
Ben Roethlisberger and Santonio Holmes improvised the 6-yard touchdown with 35 seconds left that gave the Pittsburgh Steelers a record-setting sixth Super Bowl victory, 27-23 over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday night.

“Great players step up in big-time games to make plays,” said Holmes, the game’s MVP. He said he told Roethlisberger that he “wanted to be the guy to make the plays for this team.”

The Steelers (15-4), winning their second Super Bowl in four seasons, led 20-7 in the fourth quarter, only to see Warner and the Cardinals stage a remarkable rally to go in front 23-20 with 2:37 remaining.

Roethlisberger and Holmes nailed it home, and when Warner fumbled in the final seconds, the Cardinals’ chance of winning their first NFL crown since 1947 was gone. The Cardinals (12-8), playing in their first Super Bowl since 1948, lost their cool after Harrison’s big play. They had three penalties to keep Pittsburgh’s 79-yard drive going, a 16-play march that ended with Jeff Reed’s 21-yard field goal for a 20-7 lead.

Posted in NFL Football, NFL Odds, Sportsbook Betting Tips, Super Bowl  by Sportsbook Bonus on January 26th, 2009

Steelers Cardinals Football

The early betting puts Pittsburgh as the 70% favorites with Arizona at 30% underdogs. Those Super Bowl odds reflect the AFC representative’s consistency throughout the season - the Steelers have only lost four regular season games, all to teams who made the playoffs. Both teams have been matched at three figures in many - Pittsburgh at 99-1 and Arizona at 129-1 - as the season was underway. So as it stands, the Pittsburgh Steelers are the -7(-105) SuperBowl predictions favorite with the game total set to 46½( ov-110) .

Steelers Advance to 2009 Super Bowl Against Cardinals

Posted in NFL Football, NFL Odds, Super Bowl  by Sportsbook Bonus on January 19th, 2009

Steelers Polamalu
The Steelers advanced to their second Super Bowl in the last four seasons and the seventh in team history, holding Baltimore to just 198 yards of total offense. Including the playoffs, the Steelers have won eight of their last nine home games against the Ravens.

“Here’s my advice to the Arizona Cardinals: Don’t rush Ben Roethlisberger,” the Ravens’ Trevor Pryce said. “After that, he’s a playground football player. That’s what he is, and he’s a damn good one.”

Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco finished with 141 passing yards, three interceptions and an 18.2 passer rating. Ben Roethlisberger finished with 255 passing yards and touchdown toss as he improved to 7-2 in the postseason. His seventh win passed Troy Aikman for the second-most playoff wins by a quarterback in his first five NFL seasons. Most oddsmakers that call the Super Bowl odds are giving the Steelers the win this year. I’d say that’s a safe bet.

Steelers Picked As Odds On Super Bowl Favorites

Posted in NFL Football, NFL Odds, Super Bowl  by Sportsbook Bonus on January 12th, 2009

steelers
For the first time in almost 40 years, three road teams won SU during a single playoff weekend. The only home team to weather the storm was the Pittsburgh Steelers, while the other top seeds found themselves on the losing end of the scoreboard. The Steelers defeated the San Diego Chargers 35-24 as 6.5-point chalk on Sunday as the only home team to cash in the divisional round.

Running back Willie Parker ran for 146 yards on 27 carries with two touchdowns in his best game of the season for the Steelers, who held Chargers RB Darren Sproles to 15 yards rushing on 11 attempts. Pittsburgh hosts the rival Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game next Sunday, with the Steelers listed as early 5-point favorites.

Betting On the 2009 Super Bowl

Posted in NFL Football, NFL Odds, Super Bowl  by Sportsbook Bonus on January 5th, 2009

new-york-giants-super-bowl
The top sports books favor the New York Giants over the 11 other teams in the NFL playoffs to win the Super Bowl, giving 2-to-1 odds on the NFC’s No. 1 seed to repeat as champions. The Tennessee Titans are the favorite among AFC teams to win a title at 4-1, closely followed by the Pittsburgh Steelers at 9-2.

The Giants have the easiest road to the Feb. 1 Super Bowl, while the AFC teams are more evenly matched, according to a top oddsmaker. “You want to be in the NFC,” he said. “The AFC is closer bunched — there’s not a lot of difference between your top seed and the six seed.”

The Giants have a first-round bye, then would have to beat either the Arizona Cardinals or the Atlanta Falcons to reach the NFC championship game. Sports books set 40-1 odds on the Cardinals winning the Super Bowl, and 15-1 on the Falcons.
